Windows 10 Upgrade info

Posted by Software at Penn State | 07.17.2015

You may have seen a notification or icon in your system tray offering you a free upgrade to the new Windows 10 operating system, to be released on Wednesday, July 29. Do not upgrade.

Penn State owned PCs MAY NOT take advantage of this offer, as upgrading using this method will break KMS/MAK activation and volume licensing. Users that have already signed up for this upgrade are NOT to install Windows 10 this way and must ignore all prompts to do so. Upgrading your Penn State PC this way opens the computer to unknown terms and potential data collection which can result in the affected PC requiring a clean install of the previous operating system.

For users interested in Windows 10, Software at Penn State expects the volume licensed upgrade to be available for Penn State owned PCs by mid-August 2015 through both digital distribution and physical media. By simply waiting to upgrade through Software at Penn State, users ensure compliance with proper volume licensing and continued functionality on Penn State owned PCs.
